What is the Octagon P4P?
"We are not powerless — ordinary people are making an extraordinary difference"
At the end of April, Andrew Simpson drove a 4-wheel-drive vehicle full of desperately-needed equipment to Ukraine, under the umbrella of the registered charity Pick-Ups for Peace (P4P).
"What I witnessed there made one thing absolutely clear: I have to go back. More vehicles are needed. More humanitarian supplies are needed.
Before going, I had no idea just how many ordinary UK citizens are already stepping up. On my trip alone, I joined more than 70 volunteers doing exactly the same thing.
And P4P is just one of dozens of similar groups across the country.
Together, tens of thousands of people have donated their time, money, vehicles, and skills — amounting to millions of pounds in support."
Who needs P4P equipment?
Smaller, frontline charities in Ukraine, including:
Hospitallers - volunteer medics evacuating the wounded and the sick
A hospital - needing prosthetic limbs and medical equipment
Charities - supporting displaced families and bombed-out communities
Front line small towns and villages - desperate for power sources
Local groups - caring for the elderly, wounded and sick.
How it works:
You donate:
Every pound you donate via my Just Giving page will go straight to P4P.
P4P will use it to buy the equipment that is most vitally needed.
The current priorities are:
Powerbanks costing £50 upwards
Solar-powered Powerbanks costing £200 upwards
Individual First Aid Kits costing £100 each
Combat Application Tourniquets costing £30 each
Portable Generators – £500 each
Offroad tyres – £200 each
Engine oil (5L) – £46
I fill a vehicle to the brim:
Everything I put in it will have been purchased at the best possible price by P4P.
Everything I put in it will be exactly what the charities are asking for at the time.
I join the next P4P convoy and we head to Ukraine:
The 29th P4P convoy leaves in July.
I will leave the vehicle in Ukraine and head home to plan the next trip.
