Octagon Pick Up for Peace

We’re not powerless — ordinary people are making an extraordinary difference

At the end of April, I drove a 4‑wheel‑drive vehicle to Ukraine under the umbrella of the registered charity Pickups for Peace (P4P). What I witnessed there made one thing absolutely clear: I have to go back. More vehicles are needed. More humanitarian supplies are needed. And every single contribution — large or small — genuinely saves lives.

Small people can make a huge difference

Before going, I had no idea just how many ordinary UK citizens are already stepping up. On my trip alone, I joined more than 70 volunteers doing exactly the same thing. And P4P is just one of dozens of similar groups across the country. Together, thousands of people have donated their time, money, vehicles, and skills — amounting to millions of pounds in support.

Where does the aid go?

We delivered vehicles packed with humanitarian supplies directly to smaller, frontline charities in western Ukraine, including:

  • Hospitallers - volunteer medics evacuating the wounded
  • Hospitals - needing prosthetic limbs and medical equipment
  • Charities - supporting displaced families and bombed‑out communities
  • Small towns and villages - desperate for power sources
  • Local groups - caring for the elderly, sick, and vulnerable

What’s needed now?

The 29th P4P convoy leaves on 20 July, and I’m determined to fill another vehicle with the most urgently needed supplies. The priorities right now are:

  • Powerbanks – from £50 upwards

  • Electric generators – £400 to £1,600

  • Off‑road tyres – £230 each

  • Engine oil (5L) – £46

  • Medical supply packs – £100

  • Portable generator – £499

And if you have a working generator sitting unused in a shed or garage, it could make a life‑saving difference.

Why this matters:

Every item we deliver is used immediately. Every vehicle becomes an ambulance, a rescue truck, or a supply lifeline. Every pound donated becomes fuel, medicine, warmth, or power for people who desperately need it.

How you can help:

If you’d like more information, I have a flyer about the trip — just ask. But most importantly, if you can contribute anything at all, please do.
Even a small donation goes a long way.
Anything with a few noughts on the end goes even further.
