Up Marden, a mile to the East of Compton village, has neither a pub, shop nor bus. Here stands the church of St Michael noted in Simon Jenkins's England's 1000 best Churches', and voted in 2013 by the National Churches Trust as one of sixty favourite churches.
The remainder of the village is a close knit community of private and rented homes and farms.
The village maintains close links with Compton and local government is served by Compton Parish Council
Further details on the restoration of the 200 year old cart shed located near the church can be found here on the South Downs National Park website.
