Compton Parish Room is in the centre of the village on the main road, just West of the square. It comprises a large room with a small stage and storeroom, an entrance hallway, kitchen and two loos. There is a small courtyard outside. It is well equipped with tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery and other kitchenware.
The room and its equipment are available for hire seven days a week. Special rates are available for charities. For bookings and enquiries contact Patricia Garratt on 02392 631272 or e-mail email@example.com
The main room was built in 1868 as a games room for Compton House by the Rev.d George Augustus Langdale. He was vicar of Compton for most of the second half of the 19th century and left the building for the benefit of the community in his will. It was extended in the 1970s to commemorate the Queen’s silver jubilee. The work was carried out by members of the parish, with people of all ages giving their free time and expertise.
The room has seen a huge variety of users over the years and all sorts of parties, concerts, wakes, exhibitions, plays, classes and meetings have been held there. For many years it was the home of Compton Pre-school. The room was extensively repaired and redecorated in 2018 and alterations made to the front wall to make the entrance onto the road safer. Further improvements, including installing wifi, are currently ongoing.
