To be given by:
Butterfly Paterson, Cello with Richard Barnes, Keyboard
The Friends of St Mary’s are delighted to welcome Butterfly Paterson and Richard Barnes to give a Recital of music for Cello and Keyboard. The evening will include music by Sammartini, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Fauré, Elgar and Vaughan Williams, and will feature many much-loved items that will bring a smile of recognition!
Granddaughter of Stoughton’s Judy Paterson, Butterfly studied for two years at the prestigious Purcell School before becoming one of the youngest members of the National Youth Orchestra, with whom she has toured extensively, most recently performing at this year’s Proms. She has also performed with the Britten Sinfonia and has participated in several cello masterclasses. With the support of the Stradivari Trust, she plays a fine late 18th century English cello by William Forster.
“Butterfly is definitely one of the most focused students of that age I have ever taught and her tenacity will take her to great places. She is a very passionate and meticulous student, her attention to detail and her hard work will without a doubt, make her a talented cellist.”
Eugenie Degan, cello tutor

He was a professor at the Royal Academy of Music before moving to Chichester, where for many years he was Director of the music publishing company Cathedral Music Ltd. He is well-known as a recitalist and was for many years Accompanist to the Chichester Singers, with whom he toured all over Europe.
